1 CONDITIONS
The word “Committee” in this document stands for Competition Committee. For the avoidance of doubt, the term Competition Committee refers to the small team of volunteers who administer and manage the Club competitions, the leader being the Club’s elected Competitions Officer. The Competitions Officer is ultimately responsible for all work and decisions made by the Committee.
Players should make themselves fully acquainted with these rules and also with the Rules and Conditions under which competitions are to be played. They will not waive any rule, condition or penalty at any time. Non-compliance will incur disqualification. The competition rules are displayed on the concourse notice boards and are subject to alteration by the committee as necessary.
The Rules of Golf, as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the Local Rules of the club, shall be strictly observed on all occasions.
1.4 Players shall always have regard to the etiquette of the game and shall be suitably attired both on the course and in the clubhouse. See Section 6 and notices for details.
1.5 In a competition, a player should report to the Professional at least 5 minutes before he is due to tee off. Any player arriving late within 5 minutes of his tee time will be allowed to take part in the competition with a 2 stroke penalty. A player being later than 5 minutes will be disqualified. An absent competitor in a 4 Ball Better Ball competition may join his partner between holes, but not during play of a hole.
1.6 A member having entered a competition and subsequently finding himself unable to compete, must ensure that his name is deleted from the BRS Timesheet. A member failing to do so is liable to disciplinary action by the Committee, as below:
1st occasion – Warning
Subsequent occasions – Barred from entering 3 competitions, as decided by the Committee.
When the competition is a 4 ball better ball, if one player cancels, then his partner must turn up and mark the card of the other pair.
1.7 The Professional is in charge of play at all times.
1.8 Permission must be obtained from the Committee before a player is allowed to use a motorised ride-on cart in club competitions. The Committee may ask for a medical note before they give permission.
1.9 Where applicable, the Divisions in competitions will be:

Division A – Playing Handicap up to 10
Division B – Playing Handicaps 11 to 16
Division C – Playing Handicaps 17 and above.

2 COMPETITIONS
2.1 Competitions shall be held at such times and under such conditions as the Committee shall decide.
2.2 Competition (White) tees will only be used when indicated by the Committee. They must not be used for general play, casual rounds or informal competitions. For casual rounds Yellow or Blue Tees must be used.
2.3 Each competition will be played according to the appropriate rules as displayed on the notice board.
2.4 Competitors shall play in threes unless the competition form requires otherwise.
2.5 The CONGU World Handicapping System (WHS) shall apply. A member new to golf, will need to submit 3 scorecards in order to be allocated a WHS Handicap Index. At this stage, he will be eligible to play within the competition field but not eligible to enter the competition, until such time that a further 3 scorecards have been submitted for handicap revision.
2.6 Juniors having a handicap of 18 or less are eligible to play in Gentlemen’s club competitions.
Exceptions :- Greer Cups, Nattrass Cups, Mixed Foursome Knock-out, Top Dog and Gaunt Cup.
Note :- When a Junior reaches the age of 18, he shall be eligible to compete in all Gents club competitions.
2.7 Girls over the age of 16 or having an LGU handicap of 18 or less are entitled to play in all Ladies Major competitions. Girls over the age of 16 with a handicap of 18 or less are entitled to play in the club mixed competitions (Greer & Nattrass Cups and Mixed Foursomes Knock-out).
2.8 All competition cards, including no-returns, must be duly checked, signed by both player and marker and submitted, immediately after play. Failure to do so may result in disqualification after handicap revision and suspension from Club Competitions.
2.9 Full Gents, Juniors over the age of 18, and Senior members may play in any Club Competition. All Junior Girls with a current WHS Handicap Index of 36.0 or less can play in Ladies competitions.
2.10 Life Style Members may play in the Eagle Trophy Qualifying Rounds but are not eligible to win the Final. They may not play in weekend competitions.
Country members are not eligible to play in any club competition.
5-day members are allowed to play in midweek competitions without restrictions, only Social Golf at the weekend and cannot enter Club Knockout Competitions.
6-day members may play in competitions through the week without restrictions and on Sundays, except for those held on Championship Day and also Club Knockout competitions.
2.11 If bad weather causes early termination of a competition, it will be cancelled and re-scheduled. If the committee decides this is not possible, the result will be adjudicated on those players that have completed their round and all monies will be returned to the remainder of the field.
Exceptions: The result of the Livingston Cup Final, Harry Brown and Club Trophy will be decided on Round 1, if it has been completed in its entirety.
If a competition is due to commence first thing in the morning and a suspension of play is in force, the following will apply:
a) At the weekend, the competition is cancelled.
b) During the week, if the course re-opens after the morning inspection, it will go ahead. Otherwise it will be cancelled.

2.12 Except where stated, in the event of a tie in any competition, other than match play, the winner shall be determined on the score:-
a) over the last 9 holes. Failing that,
b) over the last 6 holes. Failing that,
c) over the last 3 holes. Failing that,
d) the last hole.
If there is still a tie, then the last six holes, three holes and the final hole of the first nine holes will be considered in turn.
Exception :- Club Championship.
In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death play-off over holes 1, 2, 16, 17 & 18 until a winner is produced.
2.13 To enter a Gent's competition, a player must enter his name onto the BRS Timesheet for that day within the times allocated by the Committee. (This is how we take money from your Competition Purse).
On the day of the competition, the competitor will commence play at the time booked, unless permission has been granted by the Committee or Professional to transfer to another time.
Prior to starting his round, he must also sign-in to the competition using the PSI in the concourse or via MSI on a smartphone. (WHS Rule G2.1a (2)).He should then enter his Playing Handicap on the scorecard.
Any member who commences to play in a club competition, whether it be 18 or 36 holes is expected to complete it in its entirety.
At the conclusion of the competition, he must enter his score into the PSI in the concourse or via MSI on a smartphone, and leave his duly completed card in the cabinet underneath the PSI terminal. (Which is when it is considered to be returned). A member failing to do so is liable to disciplinary action by the Committee, as below;
1st occasion a warning
Subsequent occasions, barred from entering 3 competitions, as decided by the Committee.
Competition entry fees are non-returnable unless;
a)On a Saturday, the booking is cancelled before 19:00hrs on the eve of the competition, or
b) the course has been downgraded to condition RED on the day of the event.

Details of all competitions, including how to enter, will be as displayed on the Notice Board at the relevant time for each individual competition.

2.14 Members are not allowed to play the course or enter any competition if their subscription is overdue.
2.15 All sweepstakes shall be optional.
2.16 Scorecards must be marked by an experienced golfer who has a WHS handicap.
2.17 Full members under the age of 21 on January 1st of the current year are eligible to play in Junior Competitions. (NB: This will include some ‘Intermediate’ category members.)
Exception :- Harkness Trophy (must be under the age of 18 on January 1st of the current year).
2.18 When play is suspended by the Committee (e.g. course flooding), it will be indicated by three consecutive notes on a siren, repeated. R&A Rule 5.7b applies for the procedure when play is suspended. When play is suspended by the Committee because of a potentially dangerous situation (e.g. lightning), it will indicated by one long note on a siren and play shall be discontinued immediately. Play will resume by order of the Committee. This will be two short notes of a siren, repeated. (see R&A Rule5.7c and 5,7d).
2.19 If the conditions of the course become unsafe for play, it may be closed by any member of the Club’s Management Team, the Competitions Officer, the Competitions Committee Administrator, or the Professional.

3 MATCHPLAY
3.1 Competitions in Knock-Out Match play events shall reach a decision within the period stipulated for each round. Failure to do so may incur disqualification of all players involved.
3.2 It is the responsibility of all competitors to agree and fix a date for their match or replay. In the event of a result not being notified to the Competitions Committee by the date given, the Committee will decide the result of the tie according to circumstances or by lot.
3.3 In match play competitions (excluding the Top Dog) that finish all square at the end of the stipulated holes, play shall continue in the same sequence until a decision is reached. If there is a course closure part way through the game, the players may agree a method of deciding the result; however, if there is no agreement, the match will be replayed over a further 18 holes.
3.4 The latest time for starting shall be four hours before sunset.
3.5 In the Hartley Trophies, either player may be replaced prior to the first game being played. From then on, no changes to the pairing will be allowed

4 HANDICAPS
4.1 The Committee has the power to reduce a member’s Handicap Index at any time during the year.
4.2 The maximum handicap for each competition shall be decided by the Committee and displayed on the Notice Board outside the Professional’s Shop prior to the event.
4.3 No player without an official WHS Handicap Index may compete in any Club competition.
4.4 New members without a Handicap Index from another club must return at least 3 cards (played at Eaglescliffe Golf Club off the Yellow Tees) after which the Committee will allocate a handicap using the England Golf WHS platform.
4.5 A member allocated a new Handicap Index is required to submit a further 3 cards before being allowed to enter a Club competition. This does not preclude the member from playing in the competition field and from the competition tees in order to provide these additional cards.
4.6 New members with a previous handicap will be allotted a Handicap Index as detailed in the CONGU World Handicapping System (WHS).
4.7 When a member takes out a holding membership, his handicap will become ‘resigned’ on the England Golf WHS platform. It can be ‘un-resigned’ by the Committee when his playing membership is renewed.

5 PRIORITY
5.1 The Captain, President and Professional have priority on the course at all times. Members will please observe this priority.
5.2 Players taking part in official Club Competitions/Matches have priority on the course over those not so engaged.
Exceptions :- Qualifying Rounds of the Eagle Trophy and all club knock-out matches.
5.3 SINGLE PLAYERS HAVE NO STANDING AND MUST GIVE WAY IMMEDIATELY TO A MATCH OF ANYKIND WITHOUT BEING ASKED.
5.4 MATCHES LOSING A CLEAR HOLE MUST INVITE OTHER MATCHES TO COME THROUGH.
5.5 If a ball be lost, the match following should be invited through IMMEDIATELY.
5.6 Any match playing a whole round is entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round, starting at the eleventh tee.
5.7 On Competition days, non-competitors shall conform to the Competition play to avoid congestion. Four ball matches may only be played when the competition is a four ball. On Saturdays when a singles competition is held, four ball matches will not be played before the last competitors have started. All players that play within the time zone allocated to a competition, will be allowed to play from the tee being used in that competition.
5.8 At all times, two balls have precedence over and are entitled to pass any 3 or 4-ball match, which should invite them through.
Exceptions :-
a)4-ball and 3-ball matches shall have equal standing with 2-ball matches on Sunday mornings, Good Friday Christmas Day and Bank Holiday mornings.
b) On a Saturday during the play of a competition.
c) On a Thursday when the Eagle Trophy and the Thursday Prize Stablefords are taking place.
5.9 On Eagle Trophy and Thursday Prize Stableford days, maximum 3-balls will be allowed and will have equal standing with 2-balls.
5.10 Competition Foursome and two ball matches wishing to start between 17:00 and 18:30 cannot claim priority and may only go through if so invited.
5.11 On a Tuesday, two Balls will only be permitted to play from 09:30 to 10:00.
5.12 The first tee is the only official start point. However, players who decide to commence play at the eleventh tee may only do so before players on the tenth hole have reached the fairway.
5.13 Players leaving the 18th green, having started on the 11th tee, are not entitled to alternate within the queue of players waiting to tee off on the 1st tee, unless it has been arranged by the Committee as part of the competition format.

5.14 LADIES
Tuesday First tee reserved for ladies between 10:00 and 12:30. [NB: The Club Manager may release tee slots before 12:30 if they are not being used by the Ladies.]
Ladies may play the competition of the day at any time in the day, but ladies are encouraged to play in the reserved slots.
Friday First tee reserved for ladies between 10:00 and 12:30. [NB: The Club Manager may release tee slots before 12:30 if they are not being used by the Ladies.]
Thursday On Eagle Trophy days, no Lady may commence play between 16:00 and 18:30hrs, after which they may play in twos or threes but must give way to Eagle Competitors.
Saturdays No Lady shall play before 14:00 hrs unless she is a ‘Full Playing Lady Member with a handicap index of 30 or less and is included on the BRS start sheet.
General Players may only enter competitions if they start between 10:00 – 13:00 on Tuesdays and 10:00 – 12:30 on Fridays (priority only) except ‘Full Playing Lady Members’ on Tuesdays between 14:00 and 18:00.
Ladies MUST sign in on the PSI terminal or the HowdidIdo App (MSI) BEFORE play, for all competitions.

5.15 JUNIORS
Juniors starting to play on the course will, at all times, offer priority to adult members (both Ladies and Gentlemen).
Weekdays No juniors shall commence play between 17:00 and 18:30 unless accompanied by a Full Member.
Exception :- Inter club matches & Eagle Trophy
Saturdays No Junior shall commence play until all members on the start sheet have teed off.
Exception :- Those juniors having attained Category 1 status or who are over 18 years of age.
Sundays No junior shall play before 11:00.
Exceptions :- Those juniors having attained Category 1 status or who are over 18 years of age.
Club Junior competitions shall commence at 11:00 hrs. At the discretion of the JLO, members may be given dispensation to play after the recognised start time.
5.16 BANK HOLIDAYS
These are classed as a Sunday.
5.17 STARTING TIMES
Members should book a start time on the BRS timesheet via the Club Website or the BRS App, before they turn up to play. Any restrictions will be highlighted on the timesheet.

6 Etiquette
6.1 Nobody should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
6.2 No player should play until the players in front are out of range.
6.3 In the interests of all, players should play without delay. If a match or group fail to keep its place on the course and loses a clear hole on the players in front, they should signal to the players following them to pass immediately and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.
6.4 Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up to pass them. They should signal to the players following them to pass immediately and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.
6.5 Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made by him.
6.6 In the General Area, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by him is replaced at once and pressed down and that any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the player is carefully repaired.
6.7 Players should ensure that when dropping the flag stick, no damage is done to the putting green and that neither they, nor their caddies, damage the hole by standing close to the hole or in handling the flag stick. The flag stick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green
6.8 When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green, filling in their Score card on the next tee after they have driven off if it is clear to do so.
6.9 Players are encouraged to adopt the ‘Ready Golf’ guidance to maintain the pace of play. This can be found on the Club website.

Local Rules
7.1 Out of Bounds (R&A Rule 18.2)
Beyond any of the fences or hedges forming the course boundaries. Where there is a fence within a hedge, the fence is the boundary.
In or over the River Tees.
Beyond the line of the white posts on the right of the 5th hole.
Beyond the white posts to the rear of the 8th green.
Beyond the white posts on the right-hand side and those to the rear of the 12th green.
Beyond the white posts on the right-hand side of the 13th hole.
Beyond the white posts to the rear of the 14th green.
Note :- These posts extend behind the 15th and 4th tees to the 5th hole.

The practice putting green, Clubhouse, Car Park and all artificially surfaced roads and paths in the surrounding area.
Note :- The fence to the rear of the 5th green is a boundary fence. The fence to the rear of the 12th green is an integral part of the course. The ball must be played as it lies or declared unplayable
(R&A Rule 19). In addition to the relief obtainable under this rule, the player may play from the nearest designated dropping zone under penalty of one stroke. When taking relief in a dropping zone, the player must drop the ball in and have it come to rest in the dropping zone.
7.2 Abnormal Ground Conditions
A deep rut caused by a tractor or cart is Ground Under Repair. If a ball lies in such a rut, relief is obtainable under R&A Rule 16.1
7.3 Dropping Zones
If a ball, lying at the rear of the 5th or 12th Green is deemed unplayable, as well as relief under R&A Rule 19.2, the player may, under penalty of 1 stroke, opt to use the nearest Drop Zone. When playing the 17th Hole, if a ball is in or it is virtually certain to be in the Penalty Area that runs alongside the 18th Tee, as well as relief under R&A Rule 17.1d, the player may, under penalty of 1 stroke, opt to take relief in the Drop Zone in front of the pond. When taking this option, the ball must land in and remain in the Drop Zone.
7.4 Fixed Sprinkler Heads.
All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and if the ball is in the General Area, the player may take relief under R&A Rule 16.1b if an immovable obstruction is :-
On the line of play, and is:
Within two club-lengths of the putting green, and:
Within two club-lengths of the ball.
Exception – There is no relief under this local rule if the player chooses a line that is clearly unreasonable.
7.5 Practice
Practice is permitted on the day of a stroke play competition or between rounds on the designated practice areas situated to the left of the 10th hole and also adjacent to Yarm Road.
During normal play, any green in these areas is a “Wrong Green” (R&A Rule 13.1f ).

Club Competitions
General Notes:
a) The dates of all Club competitions are on the Club’s fixture list which is available via the Eaglescliffe Golf Club website. [https://www.eaglescliffe.gplf]
b) The details of each competition will be displayed on the concourse notice board approximately 11 days prior to the competition being played.
c) Unless otherwise stated below, White tees will be used for competitions during the main season.
d) Unless otherwise stated below, booking to play in a competition is made by the player, via BRS, 1 week in advance of the competition.
e) Unless otherwise stated below, individual (singles) competitions will be in groups of three (or two).
f) Each competition will have entry eligibility criteria based on (a) membership category and (b) handicap status.
g) Handicap allowances for various formats of play will be those recommended under the WHS Rules of Handicapping, Appendix ‘A’.
h) Competition Handicap limits are determined by the Committee. Unless otherwise stated,the maximum Playing Handicap will be 36.

8.1 Gents Trophies

8.1.1 Club Championship (No handicap allowance) 36-hole individual stroke play, single day competition.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Open to all past winners, members with a maximum Handicap Index of 7.7 and any player who has returned a gross medal score of 79 or better since the last Club Championship.
Entries will be drawn and allocated starting times by the Committee.
In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death play-off over holes 1, 2, 16, 17, & 18.
Winner – Best Gross over 36 holes.
Sweep – Winner takes all. Equal scores share.
There will be an 18 hole gross Senior Club Championship for members who are 55 years and over on the day and who have a maximum Course Handicap of 15.
There will be an 18 hole gross prize (Salver) for those with Course Handicaps 10 to 15.

8.1.2 Club Trophy
36-hole individual stroke play, single day competition.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9, 10 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 20 in each round.
Entries will be drawn and allocated starting times by the Committee.
Winner -Best nett score.
In the event of a tie, winner determined over last 18 holes, then Rules 2.11 & 2.12 to apply.
Sweep – Divided 2:1 between 1st and 2nd. Equal scores share.
A prize will be awarded for the Best Nett second round score, excluding the overall winner.

8.1.3 Livingston Cup
8.1.3.1 Livingston Cup Qualifying Rounds 18-hole individual stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for the maximum.
Play will be in three divisions.
The first four in each division in each round will qualify for the final.
Sweep – Winner and runner up in each division paid out 2-1.

8.1.3.2 Livingston Cup Final Round
36-hole individual stroke play, single day competition.
Entry eligibility:
Members who have qualified in one of the Livingston Cup qualifying rounds and who choose to play 36 holes.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for the maximum.
Entries will be drawn and allocated starting times by the Committee.
Winner – best nett.
In the event of a tie, winner determined over last 18 holes, then Rules 2.11 & 2.12 apply.
Sweep – Winner takes all. Equal scores share.
A prize will be awarded for the Best Nett second round score excluding the overall winner.

8.1.3.3 Livingston Salver
18-hole individual stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Members who have qualified in one of the Livingston Cup qualifying rounds and who choose to play 18 holes.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for the maximum.
Entries will be drawn and allocated starting times by the Committee.
Winner – best nett score.
Sweep – Winner takes all. Equal scores share.
8.1.4 Eagle Trophy
8.1.4.1 Eagle Trophy Qualifying Rounds
18-hole individual stroke play using the Stableford method of scoring.
Qualifying rounds will be held all day on Thursdays during late April to early August.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rules 2.9, 2.10 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for the maximum.
Play will be in three divisions
The first two in each division in each round will qualify for the final.
Sweep – winner and runner up in each division paid out 2-1..

8.1.4.2 Eagle Trophy Final Round
18-hole individual stroke play using the Stableford method of scoring.
Entry eligibility:
Members who have qualified in one of the Eagle Trophy qualifying rounds.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 30.
Winner – best Stableford points score
Sweep – Winner take all. Equal scores share.
A prize will also be awarded to the runner up.

8.1.5 Dixon Trophies
18-hole Four-Ball Better Ball stroke play using Stableford method of scoring.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 85% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 24.
Winners – Pair with the Best Nett score.
Sweep -divided 2:1 between 1st and 2nd pairs. Equal scores share.

8.1.6 Geoff Hutton Trophy
18-hole individual stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rule 2.9
Members with a Playing Handicap up to 15.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 15.
Winner – Best Nett score.
Sweep – divided 2:1 between 1st and 2nd. Equal scores share.

8.1.7 Gaunt Cup
18-hole individual stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rule 2.9
Members with a Playing Handicap from 16 to 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 36.
Winner – Best Nett score.
Sweep – divided 2:1 between 1st and 2nd. Equal scores share.

8.1.8 Clark Trophy
18-hole match play singles knock-out competition.
Play in groups of two.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Maximum Rounded Course Handicap allowance is 20, full difference in Course Handicaps at the time of the match.
A random draw will be made using the Club’s software, from the entry list.
Completion dates for each round will be specified by the Committee.
Date of match is a joint responsibility.
If a result is not posted by the completion date, both players will be disqualified.

8.1.9 Hartley Trophies
18-hole match play knock-out Foursomes competition.
Play in groups of four.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Maximum Rounded Course Handicap allowance for deduction is 20, half of the difference in combined Course Handicaps at the time of the match.
A random draw will be made using the Club’s software, from the entry list.
Completion dates for each round will be specified by the Committee.
Date of match is a joint responsibility.
If a result is not posted by the completion date, both pairs will be disqualified.

8.1.10 Harry Brown Memorial Trophy
36-hole stroke play, single day competition.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rules 2.9, 2.10 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Entries will be drawn and allocated starting times by the Committee.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap of 20 in each round.
Winner – Best nett score.
In the event of a tie, winner determined over last 18 holes only, then Rules 2.11 & 2.12 apply.
Entrance – See notice for the day.
Sweep – divided 2:1 between first and second. Equal scores share.

8.1.12 Lumley Cup
18-hole 4-Ball Better Ball Stableford, Medal and Bogey competitions.
Played on Saturdays from October to March.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Category 1 Juniors (i.e. Course Handicap 5 and below)
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 85% (90% for Bogey) of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 36.
Play will be from the Yellow tees.
Points will be awarded to the first six couples (1st-10, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2 & 6th-1).
Players are not restricted to partnering the same person every time as points will be designated to individuals not specific partnerships.
At the end of competition, if a maximum of 8 rounds have been played, the top 16 and ties will play off in a 4-Ball Better Ball Stableford.
Prize moneys to be decided by the Committee.

8.1.13 Top Dog
18-hole 4-Ball Better Ball match play competition in leagues.
Played on Sundays through the winter.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.6, 2.9 and Juniors over 18 years old.
Members with a maximum Course Handicap of 54.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance is 24. Players should get their Course Handicaps from the 'Course Rating & Slope Rating Table,yellow Tees'. At this point, the difference between each player's Course Handicap is calculated taken from the the player with the lowest handicap. This difference is then multiplied by 90% to give each player the number of shots he receives in the match. .
Fixture dates and times to be allocated by the Committee and posted on the concourse notice board.
During the league stages, there is no limit on the number of times a substitute may be used but the team must comprise of at least one of the original partnership. For the knockout stages, no substitutes are allowed but some flexibility will be allowed regarding fixture date in the case where one or more players are not available on the scheduled date. A minimum of 8 rounds must be played otherwise there there will be a knock out competition for all entrants.
Three points for a win and one point for a draw to be entered on chart after each game.
Number of qualifiers for the finals to be decided by the Committee depending on the number of entries.
Prize moneys to be decided by the Committee.

8.1.14 Sid Teasdale Memorial Trophy
18-hole individual stroke play using Stableford method of scoring.

Play will be from the Yellow tees.
This competition is organised and drawn by the immediate Past Captain.
Play starts from ~15:00 and is followed by a group meal and presentation.

8.1.18 Jack Liddle Silver Trophy
18-hole, 4-Ball Better Ball stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 85% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 24.
Winners – Pair with the Best Nett score.
Sweep – divided 2:1 between 1st and 2nd pairs. Equal scores share.

8.1.19 Patrick Scott Scratch Order of Merit
Played over competitions decided by the Committee.
Points awarded to the top 8 in each competition off scratch (viz 20, 14, 10, 7, 5, 3, 2 & 1).
Players with the same score will receive equal points.
In the event of a tie, the winners will play off medal match play.

8.1.20 Centenary Cup
18-hole individual stroke play using the Stableford method of scoring.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rules 2.9 & 2.10
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for maximum playing handicap.
Play will be in one division.
A prize will be awarded to the player with the best score.

8.1.21 John Still 18-Hole Championship
18-hole individual stroke play.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rules 2.9 & 2.10
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap. See 8(h) for the maximum.
The John Still Scratch Trophy will be awarded to the player with the best gross score.
The John Still Cup will be awarded to the player with the best nett score.

8.1.22 J C Brown Match Play Championship

18-hole match play singles knock-out competition off scratch.
Play in groups of two.
Open to members of the club under Rule 2.9 and Juniors under Rule 2.6. Maximum Handicap Index of 7.7.
A seeded draw will be made using the Club’s software, from the entry list.
Completion dates for each round will be specified by the Committee.
Date of match is a joint responsibility.
If a result is not posted by the completion date, both players will be disqualified.

8.2 Mixed Trophies

8.2.1 Greer Cups
18-hole stroke play mixed Foursome competition.
Entry eligibility:
Gentlemen Members of the club under Rule 2.9, Lady members under Rule 2.7.
Members with a maximum Course Handicap of 54.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance is 28 for Gents and 40 for Ladies, throughout.
Strokes received will be ½ of combined Course Handicaps for the medal round and ½ of the difference in combined Course Handicaps in the knockout rounds.
Gentlemen play from White Tees and drive the first tee.
The first four pairs with the Best Nett medal score will qualify to play in the match-play knockout stages, drawn by the Committee.
Play off date is a joint responsibility.
Sweep – Divided 2:1 between first and second pairs in the qualifying round. Equal scores share.
In the match-play stage, strokes to be taken from the Gents card.

8.2.2 Nattrass Cups
18-hole mixed Greensome stroke play against Bogey.

Gentlemen Members of the club under Rule 2.9 &2.10 & Lady members under Rule 2.7. Six-day members under rule 2.10.
Members with a maximum Course Handicap of 54.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance is 28 for Gents and 40 for Ladies, throughout.
Strokes received will be ½ of combined Course Handicaps.

Gentlemen play from Yellow Tees and drive from the first tee.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance for deduction is 28 for Gents and 40 for Ladies.
Stroke allowance is half of the difference in combined Course Handicaps taken from Men’s card.
Completion dates for each round will be specified by the Committee.
Play off date is a joint responsibility.

18-hole match play knock-out competition.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rules 2.9 and 2.10 who are 55 years of age or over on the date of the first-round draw.
Members with a maximum Course Handicap of 54.
Play will be on Monday – Friday only.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance is 54. Strokes received will be the Full difference in Course Handicaps.
Play will be from the Yellow Tees.
Starting periods will be allocated by the Senior’s Section Committee from an entry list and a draw made for opponents.
Play-off date is joint responsibility, but the emphasis is on the player drawn out first to initiate arrangements. Failure to play the match by the allowed date will result in both players being disqualified.

8.3.3 The Wilson Brown Shield
18-hole 4-Ball Better Ball match play knock-out competition.
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rules 2.9 and 2.10 who are 55 years of age or over on the date of the first-round draw.
Members with a maximum Course Handicap of 54.
Play will be on Monday – Friday only.
Maximum Course Handicap allowance is 54. Maximum Playing Handicap allowance is 24. Playing Handicaps are 90% of Course Handicap taken from the Yellow Tees. Strokes taken from the player with the lowest Playing Handicap.

Play is from the Yellow tees.
Play is in two divisions.
Qualifying for semi-final and final to be decided by Seniors section Committee.

8.3.4.2 Presswood semi-final and final.
18-hole 4-Ball Better Ball knockout using the Stableford method of scoring.
Entry eligibility:
Players who have qualified for the final stages of the competition.
Playing Handicap is 85% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 54.
Partners will be determined by a draw made by the Committee.
Completion dates for each round will be specified by the Committee.
Date of match is a joint responsibility.
If a result is not posted by the completion date, both pairs will be disqualified.
Play is from the Yellow tees.

8.3.5 Seniors Section Trophy / Salver
18-hole individual stroke play
Entry eligibility:
Members of the club under Rules 2.9 and 2.10 who are 55 years of age or over on the day of the competition.
Members with a maximum Playing Handicap of 54.
Playing Handicap is 95% of Course Handicap with a maximum Playing Handicap allowance of 28.
Play is from the White tees.
Trophy Winner – best nett score.
Sweep -2:1 divided between 1st and 2nd. Equal scores share.
Salver winner: If the Trophy winner has a Course handicap of 18 or less, the Salver prize will go to best net score of the player with a Course handicap of 19 or over. If the winner has a Course handicap of 19 or over the Salver prize will go to player in second place regardless of handicap.

9 General
9.1 Players should have reported to the Tee five minutes before starting time. Failure to do so may incur a penalty (see item 1.5).
9.2 The first player in the draw shall take the honour on the first tee.
9.3 In all Mixed Foursomes competitions, men shall drive from the first tee unless otherwise stated by the Committee.
9.4 No player may have two balls in play simultaneously unless under R&A rule 20.1c(3).
9.5 The practice area adjacent to Yarm Road may be used for (a) tuition by the professional (b) use of the nets and (c) play to the practice chipping greens from behind the line adjacent to the boundary fence. Play to or from any other part of the practice area is forbidden except during tuition by the Professional.
9.6 Preferred Lies may be used during the period 1st October to 30th April. Full details will be displayed on the Notice Boards in the concourse.
9.7 Buggies and Trolleys must not be taken across greens or tees. During the winter period, buggies and trolleys will be allowed at the discretion of the Green Committee.
9.8 Juniors in play on the course will, at all times, offer to give way to adult members (both Ladies and Gentlemen). Adult members will use their discretion and only avail themselves of this offer if it benefits the general smoothness and speed of play on the course at that time.
9.9 The first tee will be reserved for T&DUGC home matches plus other matches endorsed by the Executive Committee. It will be closed 30 minutes before the match is due to start.
9.10 Competitors are not allowed to start at the eleventh tee after players on the tenth hole have reached the fairway.
9.11 It is recommended that all playing members have an up-to-date golfer’s insurance policy.
9.12 All divots must be replaced and pressed down and pitch marks on greens repaired.
9.13 Members are not permitted to be accompanied by their dogs or any kind of animal during a round of golf, whether or not on a leash.
9.14 Each player has a personal responsibility for his name being appended to the BRS Timesheet. If a player cannot honour his commitment to play, he must inform the Professional or remove his name from the said Timesheet. Failure to do so can lead to suspension from the next three club competitions.
9.15 When the course is closed due to bad weather, members may practice in the nets from the mats provided. The Professional may give lessons from the artificial teeing area when the course is closed due to bad weather. Use of the school field practice area is forbidden when the course is closed. If the course is closed whilst play is in progress, then all players must immediately be called off.
9.16 The sharing of clubs is allowed under R&A Rules 4.1b, 22.5 and 23.7, but every player must have his own golf bag. The sharing of golf bags is prohibited.
9.17 Unless authorized by the Competitions Committee (when all groups would be the same), no match or grouping shall consist of more than 4 players.
9.18 For all play at this course, a player may obtain information by using a device that can measure distance. If the device contains other applications or features that might assist the player in his play (e.g. anemometer, thermometer, club recommendation, videoing swing to analyse fault or gauging green contours) but are not used, no breach of the rule occurs. However, if these applications or features are used the player is in breach of Rule 4-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
9.19 Members are not allowed to play from the white Tees unless they are playing in an official Club Competition. For scores returned under 'General play', members must play from the yellow Tees.Members have the choice of playing from the Blue Tees or Yellow Tees for 'social golf'.
